LONGWOOD, Fla. — The Creighton softball team endured a 2-1 loss to Longwood on Sunday morning at Boombah Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, Florida.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 11-10 and the Lancers improved to 8-10.
Longwood scored once in the first and twice in the second inning to put the Bluejays in an early hole.
Creighton only produced one base runner in the first three innings.
The Bluejays put pressure on the Lancers in the fourth. Mikaela Pechar walked before Sydney Jenkins and Sam Alm each singled to load the bases. Creighton squandered its opportunity and ended the inning without scoring a run.
Creighton reliever Kate Mullally kept the game within reach by stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth. Mullally hit one batter, gave up a single and walked another with two outs but ended the frame by inducing a fly out to center field.
The Bluejays put two on base in the fifth but did not score and Mullally worked around a one-out walk to keep the score at 3-0 in favor of Longwood.
Kailey Wilson delivered for Creighton in the top of the sixth. The Bluejay sophomore hit a one-out two RBI double to left center and drove in Madeline Vejvoda and Kiara Mills who each walked. Pinch-runner Ryann Glenn ended the inning at second base as a ground out and fly out ended the inning.
Kiele Miller came on in relief after a lead-off walk in the bottom half of the sixth. Miller allowed a bunt single before ending the frame with three consecutive swinging strikeouts.
Cayla Nielsen drew a one-out walk in the seventh but a double play ended the game.
Six different Bluejays had one hit a piece.
Mikayla Santa Cruz started the contest and lasted three innings, while Mullally and Miller combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
Creighton continues its Spring Break trip by heading to Madeira Beach, Florida for seven games in five days, beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday against Niagara.
