Creighton Volleyball loses to K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Emily Bressman had a career-high 14 kills and Erica Kostelac a season-high 14 kills but it wasn’t enough as No. 24 Creighton had its four-match win streak snapped with a four-set loss at Kansas State on Saturday, March 20th.

Scores of the match in favor of Kansas State were 25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19.

The Bluejays played without the services of All-Region outside hitters Jaela Zimmerman and Keeley Davis but still gave the third place team from the Big 12 a stern test inside Bramlage Coliseum.

“We know Kansas State’s a very good team and going for an NCAA bid,” said Creighton coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. “Missing two of our six-rotation kids put some kids on court who haven’t played as much all year.  We did some good things, but we were a little high-error and just need to be a little bit cleaner.”

Kostelac hit .294 in 34 swings and led CU with a pair of aces. Bressman entered the match with 15 career kills in two seasons, but Marian High School’s all-time kills leader finished with 14 kills while playing all six rotations. Ally Van Eekeren notched 27 assists and Ellie Bolton contributed 14 digs. Creighton had 50 kills, 43 digs, three blocks and five aces on .226 hitting.

Aliyah Carter hit .449 and slammed 26 kills to lead a powerful Kansas State attack that hit .449. Jayden Nembhard had 11 kills and hit .375 and Mackenzie Morris finished with 17 digs. The Wildcats had 63 kills, 58 digs, four blocks and seven aces.

Creighton closes the regular-season next Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Iowa State in a non-conference contest.
