LINCOLN- Its been since 1981, but the Crete Cardinals Girls Basketball Team captured their second NSAA State Championship by taking down Beatrice 53-26. It was just a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter by Crete, 9-7, but the Cardinals got their offense going and went into the intermission leading 22-14. In the second half, Crete took total control and outscored the Lady Orange 31-12 to secure the victory.
Makenzie Hatcliff had 10 points for Beatrice who ends the season at 22-4. Crete was led by Morgan Maly as she scored 20 points on 8-9 shooting from the field and 4-4 from three-point range and the Cardinals wrap up a 27-1 season with a title.
