Girls and Boys EHC Semifinals Played on Friday

FREMONT – All four East Husker Conference Basketball Tournament semifinal games were played at Midland University on Friday, Feb. 5, and aired on 107.9 The Bull.

In the girls semifinals, West Point-Beemer defeated North Bend Central 57-46, and Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur defeated Oakland-Craig 50-40.

In the boys semifinals, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family came back from down 15 to beat North Bend Central 62-54, while BRLD survived a late comeback from Oakland-Craig to win 56-52.

In the first girls game, West Point-Beemer humped out to a quick 17-9 first quarter lead over NBC, before the Tigers cut the deficit to 26-21 at halftime.

The Cadets scored 15 points in the third quarter however, and led 41-31 after three.

NBC would get within single digits, before WP-B pulled away late for the 57-46 win.

Kaitlyn Emanuel had 17 points for NBC, with Cierra Kluthe adding 11.

For West Point-Beemer, Jadyn Meiergerd scored 17 points, including five made three pointers. Sidney Swanson had 16 points and Reece Snodgrass added 12.

In the second girls semifinal, BRLD got off to a red-hot start, leading 18-5 after the first quarter and 25-15 at halftime.

The margin stayed the same in the second half, with both teams scoring 25 second half points, securing the 50-40 win for the Wolverines.

Chaney Nelson led the Knights with 19 points while Sadie Nelson added 11.

Jordan Snyder and Caragan Tietz each scored 16 points to lead BRLD.

West Point-Beemer and BRLD will meet for the girls EHC Championship Saturday evening at 6:15.

In the first boys semifinals, North Bend Central jumped out to a 25-12 first quarter lead, and would be ahead by as many as 15 points over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

H/LHF outscored the Tigers 17-9 in the second quarter, but NBC still led 34-29.

The Bulldogs outscored NBC 17-11 in the third quarter, and the score was now H/LHF 36, NBC 33.

The fourth quarter also favored the Bulldogs, as they outscored the Tigers 16-9 in the period, with H/LHF winning 62-54.

Brodey Johnson was the high scorer for NBC with 18 points, with Jaxon Wietfeld adding 14 and Kyler Hellbusch scoring 12.

For H/LHF, Jet Spier led four players in double figures with 18 points. Sage Frauendorfer added 12 off the bench, Jacob Sjuts scored 11 and Jason Sjuts had 10 points.

BRLD led Oakland-Craig 17-10 after the first quarter of the second boys semifinal game.

The Knights outscored BRLD 14-12 in the scond, and the Wolverines led 29-24 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig closed the gap in the third quarter, outscoring BRLD 15-12, and the Wolverines’ lead was down to 41-39 after three periods.

O-C would come back to lead multiple times in the fourth quarter, but BRLD was able to get ahead and stay ahead down the stretch, winning 56-52.

For Oakland-Craig, Gunnar Ray had a team high 19 points and Coulter Thiele aded 12.

Lucas Vogt scored 18 for BRLD, while Toriano Bohannon Jr. and Elliott Nottleman each added 10 points.

It will be BRLD vs Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the boys EHC Championship Satruday night at around 7:45.

Both the girls and boys championship games will be broadcast on 107.9 the Bull, along with both third place games earlier in the afternoon.
