Hawks softball splits at home with Marshalltown

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team took Game 2 of a doubleheader on Friday, splitting with Marshalltown Community College, 8-4 and 7-2 in ICCAC action at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.

The Hawks (9-17, 3-11 ICCAC) came back in the bottom of the third inning to score three runs, but allowed four runs in the top of the fourth and wasn’t able to gain any momentum to claw its way back.

Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) added two hits, a run and an RBI. Kierra Stewart (Dodge, Neb.) took the loss, pitching seven innings, allowing four earned runs off 10 hits. She struck out two batters and walked two.

The Hawks were able to score runs when it needed to the most in Game 2, jumping out to a 7-1 lead after four innings. A solid-pitching performance by Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) left the Tigers searching for answers late in the game. Lindberg tossed a complete game, allowing only two earned runs off seven hits, while striking out two. Abby Balfour (Nebraska City, Neb.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Jade Koch (Norfolk, Neb.) added a double.

The Hawks square off with Marshalltown in another doubleheader at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Norfolk.
