High school softball season is underway
(KNEB/Cottrell)

The high school softball season opened up on Thursday and will continue through the weekend for area teams.

Yesterday in North Platte it was the Gering Bulldogs dropping a pair of games to North Platte and Adams Central.

7-5 was the final in the North Platte loss. Gering got a couple big swings of the bat in this one as Brylee Dean hit a two-run homer and Kiana Island launched a solo shot.

The loss was charged to Madi Wiese, who threw all six innings and allowed seven earned runs. She struck out five.

The final score against Adams Central was 7-4 and, again, Gering showed off some power at the plate as Island and Wiese both hit home runs. Wiese, this time in a relief role, took the loss in the circle.

Gering will play today at the Aurora Invitational.

Scottsbluff will open their season today with a single game at Lexington. We’ll have coverage on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com starting at 3:50 this afternoon. Scott Foster of KRVN has the broadcast and first pitch at 4 o’clock.

We previewed the Lady Cats softball season with coach Michael Gentry along with team leaders Talera Kinsey, Brady Laucomer, and Mariah Avila on yesterday’s edition of KNEB.tv. You can watch that segment here.

Following today’s game Scottsbluff, along with Alliance, will play tomorrow in the Lexington Tournament.
