Joynt collects NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors

Nicholas Joynt of Wayne State College was named the Northern Sun Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following his performance in Saturday’s 30-7 homecoming win over Minnesota Crookston.

Joynt, a 6-1, 200-pound sophomore linebacker from Garner, Iowa (Garner-Hayfield-Ventura HS), recorded a career-best 14 tackles with one sack (5 yds), two tackles for loss (17 yds), a safety and fumble recovery in leading the Wildcat defense. He was credited with 10 solo tackles and made a 12-yard tackle for loss on a safety after tackling Minnesota Crookston punter Alex Holz in the end zone.

Wayne State is 2-3 on the season (1-3 NSIC South) and will play at #23 Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest.
