Earlier this evening Gering High School announced the hiring of Danny O’Boyle as the next head football coach of the Bulldogs program.

I spoke with Coach O’Boyle tonight about taking over as the head football coach, here’s what he had to say.

After graduating from Gering High School in 2012, O’Boyle attended Chadron State College where he attended school for five years and was a member of the Eagles football program for four years.

During his fifth year of school he helped with the Chadron High program under the direction of Head Coach, Mike Lecher.

O’Boyle was then hired by Scottsbluff and then Head Coach, Joe Benson, where he served as an assistant for one season.

Then for the 2018-2019 school year O’Boyle moved over to Gering and was an assistant coach under Josh Hiatt.

O’Boyle is the son of former Gering Head Coach, Tom O’Boyle.

Coach O’Boyle takes over for Coach Hiatt, who was relieved of his football duties late last year on December 14th. Hiatt went just 1-17 in his two seasons at the helm.

Prior to Coach Hiatt, Todd Ekart was the head coach, winning just two out of 27 games before taking the head coaching job at Beatrice High School.
