The 2019 season got started on Thursday for the Gering girls golf team. They opened up at the 13 team event at Papillion La Vista in Omaha.

The field consisted of teams from Omaha, Lincoln, and Norfolk and it was Gering showing off their combination of talent and depth to finish in fourth place.

Millard North was the team champ with a combined round of 323 followed by Class B standout Duchesne at 339. Papillion La Vista was third and then Gering with their team score of 347, good enough for that fourth place finish.

First event of the year and it comes against top notch competition and it happens about six hours away from home. That’s a great way to start a season that has some lofty expectations for head coach, Jessica Boswell.

Madi Schlaepfer led Gering yesterday with a round of 80, that was good for seventh place on the leaderboard.

The winning score was posted by Lauren Goertz of Duchesne with a 73.

Next in line for the Bulldogs was Ali Boswell, who shot 87 and finished solo 14th on the day. Kelsey Le and Avery Mitchell each posted a 90 for their opening round of the season.

Tayber Meyer shot 101.
