Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball team is ranked 12th in both NCAA Division II Top 25 polls this week. UNK (12-2) has been as high as fourth in the D2 Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) rankings while this is the debut edition of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll.
A panel of SID’s and head coaches from around the country vote on the makeup of each poll. In the WBCA poll the Lopers tallied 255 points to be behind Central Region members Minnesota-Duluth (No. 6) and Fort Hays State (No. 11). Also represented from the Central are Southwestern Oklahoma State (No. 17), Arkansas Tech (No. 19), and Central Missouri (No. 21) with East Central (Okla.), Emporia State and Sioux Falls each receiving votes. Drury (Mo.), Lubbock Christian (Texas) and Lander (S.C.) occupy the top three spots. The top three teams in the D2SIDA Top 25 – Drury, LCU and Hawaii Pacific – remain unchanged. UMD (No. 7) is ahead of UNK with Ark Tech (No. 18), UCM (No. 19) and Hays (No. 25) also in the poll. SWOSU is receiving votes as well. The Lopers return home this weekend to face Central Oklahoma (9-4) on Thursday night and Newman (3-11) on Saturday afternoon. Those games can be heard on 93.1 KRVN FM and 106.9 FM in Kearney.
