OLATHE, Kan. – No. 8 Midland University closed out an unbeaten weekend with a victory over MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday. The Warriors defeated the host school Pioneers in four sets (25-20, 26-28, 25-18, 25-8) to improve their record to 6-1. MNU fell to 2-2 with the loss.
Midland’s offense started slow but came on late, hitting .480 as a team in the final set. The opening two sets saw the Warriors commit 21 attacking errors while only flooring 33 balls. Senior co-captain Taylor Petersen led the way with 22 kills on the match, hitting .400 individually.
In the third set slowly built a narrow lead before winning by seven points. That momentum spilled over in the four and eventual final set as Midland raced out to a 9-0 lead. The Warriors would add another run of eight straight to finish off the Pioneers.
Also reaching double digit in kills was Maddie Wieseler with 15. She hit .355 on the day, also Midland’s second best.
Leimbach also lead the team with 30 assists for her second double-double of the early going. She had 30 assists while Bree Burtwistle had 25.
Midland (6-1) will be back in action at home on Wednesday, August 28th as they take on York (2-3). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside the Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
