Morningside College junior Zach Imig (JR/Gretna, NE ) had that and more Friday, Nov. 8. The Gretna, Neb., native took Benedictine University’s Ralph Nolan Gymnasium by storm, shooting a blistering 10 of 13 from the field that included drilling four of five three-pointers in route to a single-game personal career-high 30 points for head coach Jim Sykes No. 4-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division II Mustangs.
He wasn’t the only Maroon player enjoying the scenery in the Sunflower State. Junior center Trey Brown (JR/Gretna, NE ), also from Gretna, Neb., was nearly untamable inside the paint, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior forward Matt Hahn (SR/Fremont, NE ) (Fremont, Neb.) added his name to the double-figure list, canning five treys for a 15-point night.
With those three efforts added in, Morningside overwhelmed the BU Classic hosts and No. 9-ranked Division I Ravens 93-63. The Mustangs limited Benedictine to 12 first-half points for a commanding 40-12 halftime lead and didn’t look back. Sykes’ crew hit better than 60 percent from the field compared to BU’s 39.6 percent outing and held a massive edge on the boards to the tune of 40-19.
Mside (3-0) concludes play at the Classic Saturday, Nov. 9. They tip-off against Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m.
