Senior men’s basketball center Tyler Borchers (SR/Le Mars, IA ) (LeMars, Iowa) and junior women’s basketball guard Sierra Mitchell (JR/Pleasant Hill, IA) (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) represented Morningside College on the first 2019-20 Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, released Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Borchers tossed in a personal single-game high points-wise as part of his first double-double of the season (31 points, ten rebounds) during a 94-86 conference win over Dordt University Nov. 16. He converted his field goal attempts at a 75 percent clip (12 of 16) and free throws at a 54.5 percent rate (seven of 11) en route to his third double-figure scoring contest of the season.
Mitchell was just as impressive. She became the newest member of the Morningside 1,000-point club and helped lead the 19th-ranked Mustangs to back-to-back GPAC wins to start the season. Mitchell spotlighted the week with five treys and a team-high 23 points in an 81-78 victory over No. 5-ranked Dordt Nov. 16. The junior also ran off her second and third straight double-digit point totals during the week.
