Offense leads Panthers past Falcons

Offense leads Panthers past Falcons

YORK – York’s offense was firing on all cylinders Thursday night as they led wire-to-wire in their 92-88 win over (RV) Friends University. The Panthers shot 62% from the field for the game and a sizzling 60% from beyond the arc.

The Panthers had big hopes of shutting down reigning KCAC player of the year in Jordan Murdock. York did a fantastic job with that forcing him to just 18 minutes of play due to foul trouble. He attempted just 10 shots on the night, his lowest total of the season. Murdock still managed to score 23 points, but that below his 29.5 average.

Andrew Stafford (SR/Dallas, Texas) scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Patrick Burnett (SR/Erie, Pa) added 17 points as well. Michael Tolbert (JR/Apopka, Fla) added 11, while Aaron Munday-Rashid (JR/Melbourne, Australia) scored 12 points off of the bench.

The Panthers came out of the gate hot as Patrick Burnett put the Panthers up 5-0. The Falcons scored the next four points off of York turnovers and that was the closest the game would get.

York led by as many as 14 points midway through the second half, but the lead dwindled down the stretch. York held a nine point advantage with just over a minute to go, but the Falcons never gave up. Friends continued to score points and then fouled York to send them to the line. York made just 6-of-10 free throws over the final minute of play to allow the Falcons to keep the game interesting. James Conley from Friends also hit a 35 foot shot at the buzzer to end the scoring 92-88.

York improves to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in KCAC action. The Panthers host University of St. Mary on Saturday afternoon in the Freeman Center. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
