Panthers cant overcome Bethels Strong Second Half

September 8th, 2020 | Amanda Mendoza

YORK – The Panthers fell 4-0 to the visiting Bethel College Threshers in Saturdays season home opener. After a scoreless first half, Bethel scored four second-half goals to stun the host team.

In a manner of just under 10 minutes, the Threshers built their lead to 3-0 and then controlled the final 31 minutes with relative ease.

York was outshot 13-9, but of the eight shots the Threshers put on frame, four went by starting goalkeeper Gabriel Cabral (JR/Campinas, Brazil). Thiago Pinheiro (JR/Itu, Brazil) was credited with four shots on goal for the Panthers, but nothing got past Bethels goalkeepers. Sean Holness was credited with the win as he went 81 minutes in goal. He was relieved of his duties for the final nine by Caleb Cushman.

Tamas Sebestyen (SO/Szekesfehervar, Hungary), Matias Castano (JR/Payson, Utah), and Vitor Timm (JR/Porto Alegre, Brazil) were the only other Panthers to record a shot on goal for the Panthers. Alexandre Motta (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the only other Panther to record a shot, but it was not on target.

Bethel was very physical in the game as they were called for 17 fouls, as the Panthers were only called for four.

York will have a tough match next week as they travel to Wichita, Kansas to take on Friends University at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons were the KCAC champions in 2019.
