Season Ends for GACC Girls in First Round of State Basketball

LINCOLN – The season came to an end for the Guardian Angels Central Catholic girls basketball team on Wednesday, as the Bluejays were defeated 59-45 by Ponca in the first round of the Class C2 State Tournament at Southeast High School.

GACC grabbed an early 5-0 lead in the game, but Ponca went on an 8-1 run to end the quarter, taking an 8-6 lead after the first period.

The Indians dominated the second quarter, outscoring GACC 22-6, and Ponca led 30-12 at halftime.

The third quarter was an improved one for GACC on offense, scoring 12 points. But Ponca added 16, and the Indians led 46-24 after three periods.

The Bluejays had their best scoring quarter in the fourth, where they outscored Ponca 21-13. But the Indians had already done enough to secure the 59-45 win.

Samantha Ehlers had 14 points for Ponca, with Gracen Evans adding 12.

Isabel Hass finished with 10 points for GACC.

The Bluejays end their season at 23-4 overall.
