August 21st, 2020 | Amanda Mendoza

WAVERLY- In a game that looked like it was going to be a defensive battle, ended up being a big victory for Seward as they took down Waverly 7-1 to begin the 2020 Softball Season. The first run of the game didnt occur until the fourth inning by the Blue Jays, and then the second run was scored in the sixth, again by Seward, and heading into the seventh inning they led 2-0. In the top of the seventh, Seward reeled off five runs to make the score 7-0 going to the bottom half of the inning. In Waverlys last chance to make a comeback, they scored a run, but the Blue Jay defense buckled down and closed the door on any sort of comeback.

Seward was led by Sydney Parra in the circle as she went all seven innings and struck out nine batters. Waverly starts the season at 0-1 and will now compete in the Gross Catholic Tournament on Saturday. Seward is now 1-0 and will compete in the Freeman Invite on Saturday.
