SOS Juniors Start 1-0, Seniors Game Rained Out

June 19th, 2020 | Amanda Mendoza

SHELBY- Yesterday was the first day that Legion Baseball teams in Nebraska could play games and on the Diamond in Shelby were the SOS Rebels as they took on Central City/Fullerton. Battling through the rain of the juniors game, SOS won 9-8 and in the seniors game, lightning and rain stalled the game after just 1 and 2/3 innings.

In the juniors game, Central City/Fullerton came out swing a hot bat including three singles in the first inning and three runs came across to score as they led 3-0. In the bottom half of the inning, SOS countered with two runs of their own. From there they scored three runs in the second and third inning to go up 8-3 heading to the fourth inning. Central City/Fullerton made things interesting by scoring a run in the fourth, and then four in the top of the fifth inning to tie things up at 8-8. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the time limit for juniors games was approaching, and SOS had the bases loaded with one out. Grady Belt then was hit by a pitch and a run came across to score and capture the win. Belt unofficially went 2-3 with 2 RBIs also on the night. Click here to listen to the game.

In the seniors game, after about an hour-long delay because of rain and lightning, they tried to hit the field, but in the bottom half of the first, shortly after SOS scored on a wild pitch, more lightning and rain halted the game and they were unable to finish. For SOS, they will now battle Twin River on Saturday for a juniors and seniors doubleheader, and for Central City/Fullerton will head to Lakeview tonight for a juniors and seniors doubleheader.
