LINCOLN – Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur used a strong second half to defeat Bridgeport 59-43 in the first round of the boys Class C2 state basketball tournament at Northeast High School in Lincoln on Wednesday.
The teams seemed very evenly matched early on, with multiple ties and lead changes.
BRLD was up 14-11 after the first quarter, and seemed poised to head into halftime with a lead, before Bridgeport’s Braxton Swires made a deep three pointer at the buzzer to tie the game 25-25 going into halftime.
The first few minutes of the third quarter were a battle, again with multiple ties and lead changes. The Wolverines started to get separation late in the third quarter, thanks in part to two huge back-to-back three pointers from Torianio Bohannon Jr. BRLD was able to take a 41-36 lead into the fourth.
BRLD took total control of the game in the fourth quarter. An alley-oop from Dylan Beutler and dunk by Lucas Vogt was all but the deciding factor in terms of momentum, as the Wolverines had just built a double digit lead.
BRLD outscored the Bulldogs 18-7 in the fourth, and ended up winning 59-43.
Braeden Stull came off the bench to lead Bridgeport with 10 points.
Bohannon and Beutler each had 14 points to lead BRLD. Lucas Vogt had 12 points and Micah Henschen added 10.
BRLD improves to 19-4 and will face Yutan in the C2 semifinals Thursday night at 8:30 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The game will be broadcast on 107.9 The Bull.
