Sutton Sweeps Fairbury on Thursday Night

Sutton-The Sutton Juniors legion baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Fairbury Landsharks Thursday night. It took extra frames but Sutton came from behind to beat Fairbury 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single from Paxton Olsen. Game two went to Sutton also as they won 7-3.

Olsen not only had a successful night at the plate going 3-5, but he got the win on the mound taking over for Issac Stark in the fourth inning. Olsen went six innings gave up two runs on six hits while fanning seven and only walking two. Brendon Runge took the loss for Fairbury. Stark went 2-5 and stole three bases in the win. The Landsharks only had one player with multiple hits in the game going 2-2 off the bench.

Game two was a much different affair as Sutton got the scoring going early and often in the game. They scored one run in each of the first three innings against starter Jax Biehl before scoring an additional four runs off Fairbury reliever Jake Martin, two of those earned.

Sutton’s Drew Goracke got into a couple of jams in the first three innings but managed to pitch his way out of it to earn the win. Multiple Sutton players had two hits including Stark, Olsen, and Dawson Orht. Fairbury was down 7-0 in the fifth but scraped together a couple of hits, and a walk to drive in two runs. They scored one more in the sixth inning. Fairbury’s Jake Martin went 3-3 with three singles and a sac-fly in the loss.
