UNO Volleyball downs North Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball program captured a four-set win in its Summit League opener over the visiting North Dakota Fighting Hawks Friday evening.

The Mavericks (8-7, 1-0) defeated North Dakota (8-7, 0-1) by a score of 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 25-11).

Fresh off all-tournament honors from last weekend, Anna Blaschko continued her impressive stint with an 18-kill, four-block performance on .378 hitting. This marks her fifth-straight double-digit kill performance as well as her fifth-straight performance of hitting .300 or better in a match.

Sadie Limback posted 18 kills on a staggering, .567 hitting performance. Sami Clarkson posted her third double-double of the season with 53 assists and 10 digs.

INSIDE SET ONE
Omaha built an 11-6 lead over UND on a 6-1 run in the first set. The Mavericks maintained a multi-point cushion near the end of the set and led 21-16 over the Fighting Hawks on a kill by Limback. North Dakota, however, pulled together a late run (7-2) and tied it at 23-all. Omaha took a 24-23 lead with a Claire Leonard kill, but three-straight points by North Dakota gave them a 1-0 lead in the match.

INSIDE SET TWO
Omaha opened on a 4-1 run early in the match, but the Fighting Hawks eventually led 7-4 off six-straight points. The Mavericks went on a small spurt and led 13-10 mid-way through the frame. Back-to-back kills by Limback eventually put the Mavericks up 16-12. The Mavericks held on to a two-point lead late in the set, and kills by Limback an Blaschko sealed the 25-22 second-set victory and evened it up at 1-1.

INSIDE SET THREE
A 6-1 run proved to be the turning point in the third set for the Mavericks. Omaha eventually increased its lead at 17-9 off kills by Blaschko and Alexa Blase. Another 5-0 run capped off by a pair of Blaschko kills followed and put Omaha up 22-11. Despite an 8-2 Fighting Hawk run in the third set, Omaha was able to hold on and secured its final point off a UND attack error.

INSIDE SET FOUR
The Mavericks secured the win on a hot start in the fourth set. Omaha built a 4-0 lead and eventually led by double-digits (17-7) with a 7-0 run. Omaha kept the foot on the gas pedal and closed out the match with a 25-11 win, courtesy of a 6-0 run to finish the match.
