Wagner named winner of regional Arthur Ashe award

SEWARD, Neb. – Now a Concordia graduate, Bulldog tennis student-athlete Kirsten Wagner has been named winner of the NAIA Central Regional Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. The honor was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday (May 21). The organization also names regional awards under the categories of Rookie of the Year, Player to Watch, Most Improved Senior, Senior Player of the Year and Community Service.

A native of York, Neb., Wagner has been a four-year starter for Concordia women’s tennis. As a junior in 2019, Wagner helped the Bulldogs to a school record 15 wins and a run to the GPAC tournament championship match. She went 6-0 in GPAC singles matches as a junior and was named an all-conference honoree. Wagner earned her degree in biology. She will be attending physical therapy school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the fall.

The ITA will also recognize national winners in the aforementioned categories. The national awards will be announced next Thursday (May 28) during a virtual awards ceremony. The awards ceremony can be viewed on the ITA’s TwitterFacebook, and Youtube.
